The console version of the Canoco 4.5 has the same user interface as Canoco 3.1. The console version of Canoco may be of interest to you if :
- you want to automate a particular type of Canoco analysis, e.g. for a simulation study or for tailor-made routine applications,
- you prefer DOS or a similar command-line operating system,
- you want to use one of the few options that are not available in Canoco for Windows,
- you have no access to Canoco for Windows, for which you need Microsoft Windows 98 or later, or an emulation thereof; if so, you need to order a version of CANOCO.EXE that runs your system or the source code package. See also under Platforms.
For automation, you can take advantage of the Canoco project files produced by Canoco for Windows. The project file contains a full specification of the analysis and can be edited with Notepad or another text-editor. The analysis can then be rerun from the command-line prompt using the piping symbols "<" and ">", for example
