Galactica
Galactica produces 10 to 15% more oil as compared to other available crambe varieties. It is early maturating and has seeds of moderate size. The oil contains approximately 60% erucic acid. The oil from Galactica is very suitable for the production of lubricants. The erucic acid content can also be isolated in pure form for use in the production of plastics. After isolation of the oil from the seed, a cake remains which has a high protein content giving a high nutritive value. Galactica has been developed by Plant Research International. Galactica is legally protected by plant breeders' rights, and is commercialised under license
