Verdi is a pear with plenty of go in it: its unique combination of good characteristics makes Verdi an excellent pear for fresh consumption.
Verdi has green fruit with a beautiful reddish-brown blush. It tastes as good as it looks: juicy with plenty of good aroma. Pears of this new variety look like those of Bonne Louise d'Avranches, but taste and size are clearly better.
Verdi was selected from a cross (1966) between Bonne Louise d'Avranches and Doyenné du Comice and it is one of the most appealing results of a large breeding program that was initiated in the sixties by the former IVT, now Plant Research International.
Plant breeder's rights protect Verdi and it is commercialised under licence. Fruit of Verdi will be sold on the market under its trademark SWEET BLUSH, provided that the fruit was produced under specific quality and culture conditions.
