Lambada is a strawberry with a fabulous flavour. The fruits exude a deliciously full strawberry aroma and have a pleasing consistency.
Lambada, as a result of its fine taste, beautiful colour and excellent fruit size and shape, is not just good to eat but also is ideal for use in the Patisserie or the gastronomic kitchen. In other words, Lambada is an exceptional fruit for the connoisseur.
Lambada was selected in 1982 at the then IVT (Presently Plant Research International), from a cross between: IVT-76013 (Sivetta x Holiday), a line with excellent yield and fruit quality - and IVT-74112 (Karina x Primella), a line with exceptional flavour.
Lambada is a variety protected by plant breeders rights and is available under licence from your strawberry producer.

Productivity Moderate to reasonably good, with a high percentage of first quality fruit. The plant tolerates being grown at high density thus allowing for optimal land use.
Growth Strong, upright and quite open. The trusses are long and readily visible. Consequently the fruit is quick and easy to pick.
Flowering Reasonably rich-flowering, with large blooms bearing well-developed anthers.
Ripening Early; slightly later than Avanta but considerably earlier than Elsanta.
Fruit appearance Large with a slightly elongated cone shape; very uniform in size and shape. The fruit has a striking red colour and a shiny appearance.
Fruit quality Firm, not readily bruised; light-red fleshed, very juicy with and outstanding flavour and aroma. The taste is noticeably better than other varieties.
Diseases Good resistance to Verticillium Wilt, Crown Rot and Grey Mold. Slightly prone to Mildew and Alternaria Leaf Spot and somewhat susceptible to Red Core.
Forcing Lambada is suitable for forcing under plastic.
