Pavana is a late variety with a middle harvest day on average five days later than that of the Elsanta. This variety has bright red, shiny, conical fruits with a fresh green, slightly sunken calyx. The first fruits can be longitudinally grooved but in general the fruit setting is good. The fruits are very juicy, a little acerbic and very firm. The plants are large, and have an open growth habit with long flower clusters that make the fruit easy to pick.

Pavana has three resistance genes against red core, which means the chance of infection with red core is extremely slim. Furthermore this variety has a good resistance against crown rot. And the Pavana appears to be less sensitive than Elsanta to mildew on the plant and Verticillium wilt. This variety is protected by plant breeders’ rights and traded under license.

Productivity Very high, with a high percentage of top quality fruit.
Growth Strong with an open plant. The flower clusters are long which makes the fruit easy to pick. The leaves have a remarkably rich green colour and the leaves and flower stems are heavily pilose. Because Pavana is sensitive to herbicides - probably due to its hairiness – these should be used in small doses.
Flowering The flowering is simultaneous with that of Elsanta and the flowers have well-developed anthers.
Ripening The middle harvest day is on average five days later than the Elsanta. There is sufficient spread in the ripening of the fruits.
Resistance against diseases Pavana has three resistance genes against red core (Phytophthora fragariae), namely the genes Rpf1, Rpf3 and Rpf6. This makes the chance of infection with red core extremely unlikely. Furthermore this variety has a good resistance against crown rot (Phytophthora cactorum). Pavana is sensitive for mildew on the plant (Sphaerotheca macularis) and for Verticillium wilt but, up until now, significantly less so than Elsanta.
Fruit quality Very firm fruits that can be a little fragile on the shoulders, meaning that pressure spots caused by touching during picking are sometimes visible. The fruit is very juicy, a little acerbic and has a fine taste.
Fruit appearance The fruits are bright red and shiny. They also have a deep red colour internally. The fruits have a somewhat flattened conical shape with a sunken calyx.
