The bee scientists of bees@wur have specialist knowledge on all matters concerning honey bees and bumblebees. Their expertise runs from the use of these insects for pollination in agriculture and horticulture through the development of ecotoxicological test methods for bees and bumblebees. In our research we cooperate closely with foreign research organizations that are also involved in apiculture and pollination. Our bee research focuses on applicable improvements in apiculture and the rearing of other pollinating insects such as bumblebees and solitary bees. We pay special attention to knowledge transfer and implementation in practice. |

Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
Research into the effects of pesticides on humans and the environment has by governmental rules to be carried out accordenly to the OECD Principle of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). A few years ago the authorities granted PPO’s bee research in Hilvarenbeek compliant with these rules. Our staff have adapted the quality system at the new location in Wageningen, which resulted in prolongation of GLP compliance. With the changeover from PPO Bees to bees@wur we also strive for prolongation of the GLP endorsement.
The endorsement is based on the GLP quality system for testing the side-effects of pesticides on honey bees and bumble bees.
The unique combination of GLP compliance, expertise on pollinating insects, and scientific experience guarantees targeted consultancy, made to measure research, sound reporting, quality, and professionalism.
